Soft Matter Theory & Nonlinear Dynamics

One wonders whether there is a system behind the fascinating variety of forms of the ever-changing structures in living and non-living nature, or whether any connecting (physical) rules can be found. Many of these structures form far from thermal equilibrium, where the methods of classical statistical physics are no longer valid. For this purpose, known theoretical methods have to be generalised or new methods have to be applied. Our group focuses on such non-equilibrium phenomena in soft matter and biological systems.
